ATMA Niuland block conducts demo under PMKSY

Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): ATMA Dimapur, Niuland block conducted demonstration programme under PMKSY for farmers of Zhekishe and Zutoi villages on July 30.    

Resource person James Kikon, SMS (Soil Sc), KVK ICAR, Jharnapani spoke on ‘Irrigation canals from rivers & other water sources’, where he emphasized on proper method of connecting irrigation channels from rivers, farm ponds and fisheries to the paddy fields and other plantation sites.  

He also highlighted on ‘Rain water harvesting & its uses’ and said that rainwater harvesting improves ground water quality through dilution, increases agriculture production and also improves ecology of the area by increase in vegetation cover etc.  

ames further demonstrated on ‘Water harvesting structures (Jalkund)’ and stated the structure is popular especially in hilly areas and is used for multipurpose farming activities. He told the farmers that jalkund can be constructed in different sizes and materials and available at a lower cost.

Farmers Interest Group (FIG) was formed under PMKSY with 15 farmers from Zhekishe, Zutoi and Tokishe villages based on water harvesting and management practices.  

Demalu Hasnusa, BTM spoke on the core functions and characteristics of FIG, which is to maintain common infrastructure, linkage with panchayat level, ensuring optimal production planning, etc.
