ATMA Ongpangkong North conduct program on ‘Sustainable Pig Farming’

Mokokchung, April 21 (MExN): The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Ongpangkong North block organized a field day programme on ‘Sustainable Pig Farming’ on April 12 for 19 small scale piggery farmers from six villages under Ongpangkong North block, Mokokchung who showed interest in rearing piggery using dry feeding method.   The field visit was made to a "very progressive piggery farm" owned by Tatongchuchang Pongen at Satier, Aliba Village under Ongpangkong South Block.  

During the programme, Pongen served as the farmer teacher sharing his experience on use of successful improved innovative technologies for managing his piggery unit to fellow farmers which included dry feeding method, maintenance of optimum feed ratio, indigenous technology for odour control in the unit, breeding approaches etc. The participants also visited the piggery unit of fifty growers, eight cows and one boar.  

Aosungkum, BTT member, Ongpangkong North Block and Takum Imsong, SVFA from Veterinary department highlighted on the ‘Identification and Management of Common Disease Problems’ faced in swine production.  

The technical knowledge on scientific piggery management in the form of print media and de-worming medicines were distributed to the farmers.  

Demonstration on the use of bio-fertilizers in tomato cultivation was also conducted by ATMA, Ongpangkong North Block at Settsu Village on April 18.  

Method of application, its importance for plant growth and development was taught to the farmers by Dr. Lanunochetla, SMS, District Agriculture Office, Mokokchung and BTT Convener, ATMA, Ongpangkong North Block.
