Tuensang, August 31 (MExN): ATMA Panso block under Tuensang district inaugurated Fishery Farm School on August 20 at Pathso Nokeng Village. During the program, Hatho was appointed as the farm school teacher. Training and demonstration was conducted on fish pond construction and management by Resource Person ATM, Kezhasalie Medoze.
Meanwhile, on August 21, at Panso town, Kouchio Food Security Group (FSG) was formed with 10 members. Later resource person ATMs, Zulutoshi Ozukum, Visapa Movi and Kezhasalie Medoze demonstrated on package and practices for banana, mango, and pomegranate and sugarcane cultivation. The farmers were trained on the importance of banana harvesting, production on large scale.
The resource persons also trained the farmers on alternative means for sustaining farmers’ income by making food products like banana chips; vegetative propagation of sugarcane through nodes, site selection, land preparation and spacing technique.
Training on propagation methods through seeds, cuttings and air layering for pomegranate tree; propagation of mango through grafting technique viz. veneer grafting, cleft grafting, inarching grafting and attached grafting, intercropping, time and technique of pruning and training to prevent fruit diseases and maintenance of young mango seedlings were also taught to the farmers. Altogether 25 farmers attended the programme.
