ATMA Phek organises inter-state farmers’ training

Phek, April 29 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Phek organized inter-state farmers’ training to Assam on April 26 and 27 with an objective to provide first-hand information about the economics and market condition of agricultural commodities and also to train the farmers on production packages of animal husbandry, especially poultry farming.  

It was organized in collaboration with KVK, Kamrup-Assam, a recipient of best ICAR Award and best Zonal KVK Award.  

Led by Dr. Keviu Shuya, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Phek, 15 farmers and 4 officials took part in the training.  

The team was received by Dr. DN Kalita, Principal Scientist and Head, KVK Kamrup. He encouraged the farmers to be demand driven and market through cooperatives to reduce risk. He also taught the farmers on the economics of banana, black pepper, turmeric, tuberose and other high valued crops.  

Meanwhile, resource person Dr. SC Kalita, Programme Assistant, KVK Kamrup taught in detail about poultry farming. He also trained the participants on feed formulation for animal livestock, piggery farming, IFS model, integrated duck-paddy-fishery farming.  

An on-farm training was also conducted by Arup Kumar Sarma, Farm Manager, KVK Kamrup, where he educated the farmers on vermi-composting, crop sequence, propagation methods through stem cutting, one bud-leaf methods and mulching methods.
