Dimapur, June 12 (MExN): ATMA Tuensang conducted an exposure trip for the women SHGs selected from the eight blocks of the district led by team leaders Moainla and Sentimenla, ATMA BTMs. Project Director ATMA & DHO, Tuensang Dr. Moa Walling stated in a press release that altogether 18 women of 12 Self Help Groups from 12 villages toured Yisemyong, Medziphema, Jharnapan and Dimapur from starting June 7 to 11.
The group visited SARS, Yisemyong, Mokokchung where Supongmar, SDAO and Nungsang, RO briefed on the importance of soil testing, organic farming, system of farming practices, vermicomposting, germplasm collection from all the districts and biodiversity cum watershed model. The team visited Bio-Control Lab, Bio-fertilizer Lab and CIH at Medziphema. Preparation and importance of bio control agents was demonstrated at Bio-control Lab by Imtionen, AO and the uses of different biofertilizers and vermicompost was deliberated by Lawrence, AO and Benjamin SDAO at the Bio-fertilizer Lab. A.K Singh and Arvind (TA) of CIH, demonstrated the technique of budding in orange and grafting in cashew nut and later visited the cultivation of rose and gerbera in green house. The team also visited the duck cum fish integration farming, poultry management, intercropping of legumes and cereals and mithun farm at the ICAR Complex, Jharnapani.
The SHGs were exposed to bamboo and its products at the NBRC where Dr. Vikato explained on the importance and utilisation of the Green Gold Bamboo. Later, they visited the Zoological Park and the Green Park. The team leaders mentioned that such exposure trips will surely have positive impact on the mindset to broaden their outlook and will usher to venture into more income generating occupations.
