
Wokha: A farm school on coarse grains was opened at Airfield colony, Wokha on April 1 by ATMA, Wokha. Dr. Mhonchan Shitiri, Project Director, while speaking on the occasion, said that coarse grains like millets, jowar, oats were grown since time immemorial by Nagas, but has been neglected of late. A press release informed that he emphasized on the need to propagate coarse grains in an extensive manner as well as its consumption as an alternative to rice due to their health benefits. He cited the example of Tuensang where rural people consume coarse grains as a regular diet.
In the technical session, Bendangla Imsong, SMS, KVK spoke on the importance of coarse grains and said that coarse grains may become a substitute staple food for the Nagas as they can be grown even during erratic weather condition. Benthunglo Murry, ATM spoke on the concept of farm school. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Tsienomo, BTT convenor and Renboni proposed vote of thanks. 27 farm school students attended the programme. Bendangla gave away farm school kits and logistic support to the students.
