Attempt to kill YTC leader alleged

Dimapur, October 11 (MExN): A Yimchunger organization today alleged that a number of gunmen, said to be “Sumi-speaking” individuals, abducted the vice president of Yimchungrü Tribal Council (YTC) and attempted to shoot him. A press release from the Yimchungrü Akherü Arih-Ako (YAA) received did not mention the date the alleged crime took place.
According to the YAA, the YTC leader was abducted from an area in “united Naga village” by a number of unidentified “Sumi-speaking” armed men.   
Te YAA press release narrated the alleged incident – “The Yimchungrü Akherü Arih-Ako (YAA) condemns the Sumi-speaking armed men for their heartless and highhandedness meted against the prestigious personality Shri. Shelimthong, the vice president of Yimchungrü tribal Council by kidnapping him from United Naga village area and then blindfolded, handcuffed and driven away from his own vehicle to an unknown location on the pretext that the higher authority wishes to meet him. He was later on shot by a revolver but fortunately by the grace of God the revolver did not fire. After that, he was released after loosened up his hands.”
The said Shelimthong is said to have reached his residence at midnight with the assistance of some local residents. “Under the facts and circumstance, the YAA express doubtful whether Nagaland is safe for the common and the ordinary persons from the hands of such unscrupulous hands when even the most reverent and highly known personality could be kidnapped, robbed and attempted at our own kitchen,” the YAA said.
The organization has demanded that the law-enforcing agencies identify the criminals at the earliest and book them under relevant sections of the Law. All right-thinking citizens are urged to condemn the “unfounded act.” The press lease was appended by YAA president Z Throngshe and deputy speaker Roland.
