Metalcore band from Dimapur, Avancer, is winners of the State’s anti-HIV-AIDS campaign, ‘RockAware 2011.’ The band thumped 10 other bands at a sufficiently loud final event of the music-driven campaign tonight at the Dimapur District Sports Council Stadium.
Performing before a capacity crowd that saw both wobbling stiletto devotees in dinner dresses and boxer-wearing youths, Avancer won Rs. 1 Lakh, an automatic entry into the Nagaland National Hornbill Rock Contest and a performance for next year’s Handshake concert in Bangkok.
A pleasant delight of the evening was Tuensang’s Tears of Judas who walked away with the second prize, Rs. 60,000 while Zunheboto’s Anti-Trust secured third place, winning Rs. 40,000.
In the individual-prize category, Mokokchung band, In The Name, killed the competition by winning the prizes for Best Vocalist and Best Guitarist.
For a city gradually becoming more known for crimes and frustrated youth, the event offered itself as a catharsis for many. Several thousands throng the stadium to listen to 11 bands and guest performers such as Grammy winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Avantagarde/Metalcore band from Dimapur Melodrama and Naga Idol Renbeni Odyuo also performed as special guests for the event.
