Dr. Ketoukhrie-u addressing awareness camp on harmful effects of tobacco at Pfutsero. 
 

 

Kohima, July 30 (MExN): An awareness camp on harmful effects of tobacco was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero under Phek district on July 30.


It was organized by Community Health Centre (CHC Pfutsero) with Dr. Ketoukhrie-u, Dental Surgeon CHC Pfutsero as the resource person. 


Dr. Ketoukhrie-u highlighted the global and national statistics on the effects of Tobacco use where 6 million people die every year due to tobacco use. She also highlighted the rampant use to tobacco in India and mentioned that India has highest oral cancer cases in the world. 


She stated that North East India ranks highest in Tobacco use in India. She narrated how Nagaland state moved to 7th highest tobacco consumption state in India from No. 2 due to consistent awareness campaign efforts by various agencies. She encouraged the students to take active part in educating the people on the harmful effects of Tobacco. Later, Anti-Tobacco pledge was taken by all the participants.


Sketching competition on the theme was conducted in the school wherein Dr. Bentilo Kath distributed cash prizes to the winners.  The programme was led by GHSS Pfutsero, Vice Principal, Kelhikha Kenye while Kedokole Khape, Headmistress delivered welcome address. The programme was attended by more than 650 students and 20 teachers.
