Dimapur, January 20 (MExN): A two-day camp mode registration-cum-awareness event on Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma (PMV) Scheme was held in Dimapur on January 19 and 20.

The event was organised by the office of MSME-DFO, Dimapur in association with the Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Nagaland and Business Association of Nagas (BAN) at Senden Riju, Purana Bazaar, Dimapur, a DIPR report stated. 

The PM Vishwakarma scheme was announced on August 15 and officially launched on September 17 by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The scheme envisages providing end-to-end support to traditional artisans and craftspeople in the unorganized sector. The scheme will be implemented through the Village Councils/Panchayati Raj and ULBs thus extending the benefits of the Scheme to the grassroots level workers. The Scheme covers artisans and craftspeople engaged in 18 trades related to Vishwakarmas. The benefits of the scheme includes recognition of artisans and craftspeople, skill up- gradation with stipend, toolkit incentive, collateral free credit, incentive for digital transactions and marketing support.

The release stated that the two-day camp was virtually inaugurated by Union Minister MSME, Narayan Rane, who also virtually inaugurated the Nagaland Tools and Training Centre Extension centre at Kiphire and Common Facility Centre (CFC) in Wooden Furniture Cluster, Toluvi Industrial Park, Dimapur. The foundation stone for Technology Centre on Medicinal & Aromatic plant at Razaphe Basa, Chümoukedima was also virtually laid by the Union Minister during the programme.

The Union Minister highlighted the intent of the Central Government to uplift and improve the livelihood of the Vishwakarmas by bringing them into the mainstream economy through the introduction of this scheme and other schemes and programme of the MSMEs tailored especially for Women Entrepreneurs, SC/STs etc to create new opportunities for growth.

Secretary MSME, SL Das, IAS, exhorted the gathering and Ashutosh Niranjan, IAS, Director PMVK, Ministry of MSME highlighted the provisions of the scheme. Mercy Epao Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME delivered the vote of thanks. Resource persons from Financial Institutions, RBI Kohima, Common Service Centre, NSDC, Employment Skill Development and Entrepreneurship also enlightened the participants.

A total of 291 on the first day of the Camp and 150 on the second day comprising of village council members, artisans and craftsmen attended the programme. Participants for the program came from all the districts of Nagaland and actively registered themselves online during the camp with the assistance of representatives from the Common Service Centre (CSC).
