Wokha, November 20 (MExN): An awareness campaign on ‘Protection and Conservation of Forests and Wildlife with Special Reference to Amur Falcons’ was organized on November 10 at the NEEPCO Recreation Hall, Doyang. The programme was attended by thirteen villages from the area.
Speaking at the event, special invitee Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor to GoN, Horticulture Department lauded the communities for protecting the Amur Falcon as they stopover in Doyang. He professed the need for co-existence and conservation of all other species. If possible, he urged the department concerned to declare the area as an Elephant Reserve.
Guest invitee of the programme, Siddhanta Das, IFS, Director General of Forests, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF& CC), Government of India, spoke on the Amur Falcon. He expressed happiness to the conservational effort that Nagaland, especially the local communities was making towards Amur Falcons.
Keynote address was given by SP Tripathi, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Chief Wildlife Warden, Nagaland. Others who spoke were DK Sharma, IFS, Chief Wildlife Warden, Tripura; Jenithung Shitiri, Pangti Village Council Chairman and Bano Haralu, Nagaland Wildlife & Biodiversity Conservation Trust. A song was presented by the students of Frenbrook School, Wokha. Rajat S. Pal, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Nagaland proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme was chaired by I. Panger Jamir, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, Nagaland.
