Awareness campaign on RPwDs Act 2016 held in Mon

Mon, October 30 (MExN): Mission Mode Team (Accessible India Campaign) in collaboration with Office of State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities organised a sensitization and awareness campaign on Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 at Walo Guest House, Mon on October 30.

Commissioner & Secretary and Team Leader Mission Mode Team (AIC), K Libanthung Lotha highlighted that MMT on Accessible Indian Campaign was constituted by Social Welfare Department on February 5, 2019 to monitor and supervise all technical aspects and to make recommendation of barrier free environment in Government buildings and other facilities with four members. 

He stated that the main objective and intention is to sensitize, educate and make an awareness to create barrier free environment for persons with disabilities, treat them on equal basis and create a better world for them. He urged upon meeting to be active messengers to create awareness for the Rights of People with Disabilities (RPwDs). 

Advocate, Guwahati High Court, Kohima Branch, Apila Sangtam highlighted the Court Directives and Legal Implications of Non-Compliance while State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Diethono Nakhro presented an overview, status of implementation and way forward for RPwDs Act 2016.

The campaign was attended by District HoDs, leaders of NGOs and Church Leaders. The campaign concluded after an interactive session with all the participants. It was chaired by DC Mon, Thavaseelan K, IAS, stated a DIPR report.
