
Longleng, September 1 (MExN): Awareness cum training programme on pulses was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Longleng on August 30 at Nyang village of Longleng District.
Dr. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agronomy) spoke on importance of pulses for nutritional security. He encouraged the farmer community to go for pulse cultivation in rice field without keeping fallow for increasing the cropping intensity and additional income and also for improving the soil fertility which helps the next crop. He also emphasized on improved production technology of green gram, black gram, lentil and chickpea.
K. Lily Rangnamei, SMS (Horticulture) deliberate on cultivation practices of pea for vegetable as green pea and also encourages the farmer’s to go for pea seed production.
E. Lireni Kikon, SMS (Plant Protection) give detail lecture on insect pest and disease management of pulses. Major insect pest of pulses, their nature of damage and management practices were taught for higher productivity as plant protection measures are the most important for giving higher yield in pulses. Farmers show keen interest to take up pulse cultivation in rice fallow by this year itself. About 40 kg of green gram and black gram seed were distributed to the farmers.
All together 50 farmers were participated during the programme.
