Awareness prog on mental health conducted at MCC

Kohima, February 17 (MExN): An awareness programme on mental health was organized by the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) at Model Christian College (MCC).


Speaking on the occasion, Veronica Nriame, a Psychiatric Social Worker talked about the common mental health issues experienced by young people like gaming disorder, internet addiction, substance abuse, depression etc. The risk of suicide increases if one’s mental health is left untreated, she said and further stressed that stigmas on mental health patients should be removed because a vulnerable section of society are subjected to discrimination.


Ketousenou Phewhou, a clinical Psychologist by profession spoke on depression and anxiety disorder and the common symptoms and behavioral changes that are evident when a person suffers from depression. Symptoms like sleeplessness, lack of energy, neglecting responsibilities etc are evident when a person is depressed. She also spoke on the causes and ways to manage anxiety and depression.


Administrator, Model Christian College in a press release stated the programme was chaired by Fuchumlo Lotha, President, MCCSC and vote of thanks was delivered by Nukulu Ruho, Vice President, MCCSC.
