Dimapur, December 6 (MExN): A one-day awareness programme on “Building Collective Efforts Towards a Vibrant Society: Climate Change and Urban Ecology” was held at E-Space Oriental Colony, Dimapur on December 6.
The programme was organised by ActionAid Karnataka Projects in collaboration with Can Youth. The event was attended by environmental experts, municipal leaders, youth groups and civil society organizations to discuss climate and urban challenges in Nagaland.
The programme began with a welcome address by Zhove Lohe, Secretary & Director of Can Youth. Sessions were facilitated by Adrian M Mahung, Alice Kamei, Tolivi N Sumi, and Thungchabemo Tungeo, CEO of the Dimapur Municipal Council, covering themes such as urban ecology in hill cities, waste realities, decentralised waste management, and the role of citizens in urban governance.
The final session was led by Arshel Akhter, Urbanist and Managing Director of PURVCA. Akhter guided the participants in identifying practical interventions for strengthening community-led environmental efforts.
Participants emphasised the need to strengthen waste segregation at source, promote youth-led environmental activities, enhance coordination between Municipal Councils and community groups, and adopt colonies for focused environmental improvement. The group also highlighted the importance of behavioral change and proposed short-term and long-term action plans to support cleaner and climate-resilient neighborhoods.
