Zunheboto, October 29 (MExN): The Nehru Yuva Kendra Zunheboto under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Government of India in collaboration with District Mental Health Program Zunheboto held an awareness programme on drug addiction and substance abuse at Cornerstone Hr Sec School on October 28.

A press release issued by the Media Coordinator of the event stated that giving the welcome address, Zakato L Zhimo NYK Zunheboto talked about the importance of conducting such programmes. He stated that such initiative is being taken up to stop the youth and the present generation mostly students from drug addiction and substance abuse. 

L Chinglem Konyak, EAC HQ Zunheboto stated that mostly the students and youths should be given awareness about prevention from all kinds of intoxication. He stressed about the harmful effects that would cause to the society, family and oneself due to such addictions. Konyak mentioned that the present generation is not considered and worried about consumption of such substances. 

To the students, he urged them to respect and care for their parents and elders. He urged the parents, teachers and elders to strictly encourage the students and youths and to monitor them to keep them away from such harmful substances. He mentioned about various harmful impacts of drug consumption citing examples from actual life. 

Loinoli H Chophy, OST District Hospital Zunheboto focused mainly on drug addiction. Chophy mentioned that there are two main addictions - substance abuse and non substance abuse. Talking about substance abuse, she mentioned that those people having addicted to such substance can avail OST treatment though it is not a short term treatment but it can help and addicted person to get relief from any kind of substance addiction. Chophy urged the attendees that if there is any known people to the attendees who are into such addiction they may be referred for OST treatment for faster recovery and relief. She also mentioned that OST treatments can be availed for free.

Atolimi Khujumi, Clinical Psychologist, District Mental Health Program mentioned that there are many kind of health issues resulting to major health complications due to addiction to such substances, the affects of drugs can also be passed through generations she mentioned. Khujumi also talked about the major harms that drugs can cause to a person's mental health resulting in low memory power, harmful impacts on body, hairfall and other health complications.
