Dimapur, August 28 (MExN): The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) organized an awareness programme on ‘tobacco in time of COVID-19’ with Dr Reyosalu Lase Vizo, Nodal officer National Tobacco Control Program, Dimapur District as the resource person at WCH Conference Hall on August 27.
WCH, General Secretary, Akholo Mekrisuh in a press release stated that as COVID-19 cases are increasing in the state, the dangers of tobacco habits especially during this time of pandemic need to be taken seriously, as it can complicate COVID-19 situation both in terms of transmission and co- morbidities.
It stated that the effect of Coronavirus can be more for tobacco users as it weakens the immune system making one more vulnerable to COVID-19 infection. Tobacco use in general has higher chance of transmission of COVID-19 by hand to mouth contact which can transfer the virus into the body through the mouth.
The programme was attended by heads of different frontal organization under WCH, village chairmen, VDB secretaries and pastors from various churches.
Invocation was pronounced by Pastor Niezo Koza, WCH, President, Dietho Rhakho delivered introductory speech and closing prayer was pronounced by Pastor Kuvehu Therie while it was moderated by WCH, Joint Secretary, Zasekhoyi Ringa.
