Awareness programme held in Zunheboto

Zunheboto, June 2 (MExN): The Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) organized an awareness programme on May 31 at Olympic Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto.  

The event was held in collaboration with the school management on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day.  

Atoka Achumi, Secretary of ZDLSA spoke on the significance of World No Tobacco Day.  

One of the resource persons, Dr. Esther Chophy Ngullie, Dental Surgeon at District Hospital Zunheboto, spoke on the harmful effects of tobacco use from the medical perspective.  

She dwelled on the diseases and ailments which are directly associated to the use of tobacco in both its smoke and smokeless forms, a press release from ZDLSA Secretary informed.  

Another resource person, Tovi Z. Yeptho, Panel Lawyer of ZDLSA spoke on the legal aspects pertaining to the prevention, prohibition and control of use of tobacco products.

He primarily dwelled on the restrictions provided by law on the sale, consumption, promotion and use of tobacco and its products and the punishments imposed by law for contraventions thereof.  

Other highlights of the programme included a speech competition and painting competition on the theme “No Tobacco”.  

The winners of the competition were awarded gift hampers with token prize money which was sponsored by ZDLSA.
