THIZAMA, NOVEMBER 1 (MExN): An awareness program on women-centric schemes under Mission Shakti was conducted on November 1 by the District Administration in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and Sakhi- One Stop Centre in Thizama.
A DIPR report stated that Gender Specialist, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Kohima Vikeduozo Sorhie provided an overview of the Sambal and Samarthya components of Mission Shakti, detailing how these schemes empower women. He also explained at length on the PMMVY scheme and how women can get access to the scheme. Under the Sambal component, Sorhie provided a brief explanation of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme by stating its goals, target beneficiaries and the activities conducted so far in the field of education, sports and skill development. He also gave a brief overview of Women Helpline, 181 and the assistance it gives to women.
Medochünuo Chielie, a Counselor, from the One Stop Centre, Kohima elaborated on services available to women facing gender-based violence, including legal and medical support. She explained how OSC caters to women in distress and also cited the various assistances given to women under the scheme like legal, medical and counseling assistance. She also stated the different types of violence faced by women like sexual violence, physical violence, online digital violence, harmful traditional violence and socio- economic violence. Chielie encouraged women to seek help and overcome societal taboos.
The program was chaired by Senti Solo, with a vote of thanks delivered by Rukülü Tunyi, Assistant Commandant of the 4th NAP, Thizama.
