Kohima, April 23 (MExN): The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) has called for immediate and “uncompromising” action against IAS officer Reny Wilfred, citing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse of power.
In a statement, the AWO expressed outrage and condemned what it alleged as “repeated and inexcusable actions” forming a pattern of abuse of power involving the officer.
The organisation referenced past allegations during Wilfred’s tenure as the Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, where he was accused of molesting two minor girls — a case that remains unresolved.
It further alleged that he is currently facing accusations of sexually harassing women employees under his authority.
Expressing concern over the alleged recurrence of such actions, AWO stated that such behaviour reflects not only a “blatant disregard for the law” but also points to systemic failures in ensuring accountability for individuals in positions of power.
The AWO asserted that it is vital now that women stand in solidarity with each other and fight against such atrocities to uphold the dignity, safety, and rights of women and children.
Thus, the organisation demanded the immediate arrest of the officer and called for a full and impartial investigation into all allegations. It also urged that legal proceedings be fast-tracked to ensure justice is served under the relevant laws.
AWO further appealed to civil society organisations, women’s groups, and human rights defenders to unite in seeking justice and protecting the dignity and safety of women and children. “The safety of our women and children and the integrity of our justice system must never be compromised,” the release added.
