AYO condemns fuel spillage in paddy fields

Kohima, July 15 (MExN): Maintaining that the fuel spillage in the paddy fields under Jotsoma village was an “intentional damaging of standing crops which is a 'curse' and a 'gena' in Angami Naga customs,” the Angami Youth Organization (AYO) today condemned the “irresponsible action” in highest term and appealed to the District Administration and police authority to book the culprit(s) and award befitting punishment.

In a press release issued by its General Secretary, Rokoketou Sechü, and Vice-President, Kekhrievolie Keyho, AYO also asked the fuel dealers and petrol/diesel business owners/associations to “own responsibility to find out the culprit among themselves as the action directly involves them.” Failing to do so, the organization cautioned it will not hesitate to take the matter and initiate its own course of action “where all concerned may be affected.”

The youth organization further appealed to the district authority concerned to take proper assessment of the damage and compensate the victims accordingly at the earliest since the land affected may not be cultivable for some years.
