AYO responds to GPRN/NSCN

The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) is constrained to issue this statement in connection with the statement of the GPRN/NSCN through its MIP and carried in the Local Dailies on 18th August 2012 headed as ‘AYO move unacceptable’.

It is astonishing to find the statement attempting to taint the image of AYO with unfounded allegations and accusations which were totally baseless and uncalled for; unless we may surmise that a highly established organisation like GPRN/NSCN is totally misinformed of the unfolded past events.  Whereas, on the part of AYO, it has taken its stand with clear conscience and principle without any partiality towards any individual or group and without any intention to malign any Organisation but to call a spade a spade. If AYO is to be accused of any motive of taking such drastic step it is solely for the noble cause of keeping peace and harmony in the state capital.

Time and again, various respected civil society organisations have been making appeals to all conflicting Naga National Organisations to stop bloodshed. Likewise, AYO also joined along with colony Councils, G.Bs, Youth Organisations of Kohima in appealing to all factions to shun violence and to make Kohima, the state capital a safe place for all as it belongs to all. But it had all gone to deaf ears. Wherefore, it had prompted the joint meeting of the AYO with the Youth Organisations of Kohima to adopt a resolution that the ‘Youth shall launch Non-Co-operation movement to any faction/group if any attempt is made to disrupt the peaceful co-existence of the citizens’.

It may be pertinent to point out that it is not unprecedented that such non-co-operation was declared on national groups and that AYO is taking action with the same yard-stick against all groups without leanings. On 7th April 2012 when the cadres of NNC/FGN (non-accordist) disrupt the peace at PR Hills Junction, the AYO had declared Non-co-operation with the organisation. Subsequently, only when apology was tendered, action taken on the erring cadres and assurances of non-recurrence of such unwanted incident conveyed, AYO revoked its decision against the organisation.

The AYO has taken strong exception of the GPRN/NSCN accusing the “Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) members of becoming interpreters, informers and wealthy source of intelligence for various Indian agencies to intercept and arrest Naga National Workers”. This shows the writer’s or the MIP’s lack of concern or respect for truth and facts. And it is a serious allegation against the Angami people, and recklessly untruthful. It is tantamount not only to character assassination but to questioning the patriotism and undermining all the contributions and sacrifices the Angami people have made for the Naga National Struggle. The AYO, therefore, put across to the MIP, GPRN/NSCN to substantiate its accusations or retract its statement.

In the same write up the MIP, GPRN/NSCN attempted to hit below the belt levelling baseless accusation against the AYO, such as serving Quit Notice to a particular Kyong (Lotha) village; disallowing a proposed rally of the Aggrieved Teachers Association of Nagaland (ATAN); summoning the ENPO and ENSF to Kohima to tender apology for a contract related case. The AYO would like to make it categorically clear that all of the above accusations levelled against the AYO by the MIP, GPRN/NSCN are false and figment of imagination or plain prejudice. No organization worthy of its name should stoop so low as to so irresponsibly mislead the people with false accusations. The AYO suggests the GPRN/NSCN to get the facts straight. There may be confrontation or disagreement in the level of some groups or villages but those cannot be taken or magnified as tribe or apex organisational conflicts.

For the information of the MIP, GPRN/NSCN, representatives of AYO had met several of their leaders at Khehoi and Kohima on several occasions besides being privileged to attend many other formal programmes of the GPRN/NSCN. One wonders if the MIP feels that the discussions during those meetings have no credence.

The statement of the MIP, GPRN/NSCN under discussion conveyed a threat that is totally undeserved. The AYO will not be cowed down by the threats in its pursuit for peace and harmony and therefore asks the public in general and the Nagas in particular to speak out what they feel is right thing to do.

The AYO shall continue its pursuit for peace and harmony and would like to call upon all Nagas, be it underground or over-ground, to do so, which otherwise the conflict situation is gnawing at our aspirations and detrimental to our over-all future well-being.
