Kohima, June 1 (MExN): The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) will be organizing cleanliness -cum- tree plantation drive on June 5 to mark Wold Environment Day in Kohima.

It will be held under the theme “Towards cleaner and greener Kohima.”

AYO president Kesosul Christopher Ltu informed that this year’s observance will focus on a cleanliness drive and fruit tree plantation, involving over 400 youth volunteers under the Kohima Municipal jurisdiction.

AYO will be the distributing fruit tree saplings and the respective colony youth will identify suitable planting sites within their respective colonies and also take responsibility for nurturing the trees into maturity.

“This year, we are emphasizing not just on planting but also nurturing these saplings into fully fruit-bearing trees,” AYO environment secretary Kedoroko Casavi informed.

“We want these efforts to be sustainable and long-term not just symbolic act for a single day,” he said.

The programme will commence from 10:00 AM with a short gathering at AYO office, followed by the deployment of volunteers across the stretch from New Reserve to High School for the cleanliness drive.

The event will also see the participation of MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhutso.
