Azailong and Nsong lift 1st Peren district volleyball trophy

PEREN, DECEMBER 2 (MExN): Azailong men’s team and Nsong women’s team emerged as the champions of the first Peren district inter-village/town volleyball tournament for both men and women respectively on Friday. 

The tournament was organized by Peren District Volleyball Association (PDVA) from November 28 to December 2 at Jalukie “B’ village local ground. The closing ceremony was graced by Peren District Athletics Association (PDAA) president, Elia Nring as the guest of honour.

Playing against Old Jalukie in the men’s final match, Champions Azailong took a comfortable win against the runners-up Old Jalukie in straight three sets. While in women’s final, Nsong defeatedNchan in three straight three set.

The best discipline team for men was bagged by Deukwaram A who also received Rs. 5000 while best discipline team for women was bagged by Mhainamtsi and received Rs. 3000.

The individual awards winners for men were: Player of the tournament – Inkiengchube (Old Jalukie); Best spiker – Namdorai (Azailong) and Best setter – Lunggiebe (Old Jalukie).

Women’s individual awards winners were: Player of the tournament – Isidaule (Heningkunglwa); Best spiker – Idaisile (Nsong) and best setter – Lamkhonei (Vongkithem).

The men’s champions Azailong pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 with trophy and certificates while runners-up Old Jalukie received a cash amount of Rs. 25,000. The losing men’s semifinalists Nkialwa and Nchan also received Rs. 5000/- each.

The women’s champions Nsong walked home richer with Rs. 30,000 with trophy and certificates while runners-up Nchan received Rs. 15,000. The losing semifinalists Heningkunglwa and Vongkothem received Rs. 3000 each.

The guest of honour gave away the prizes to the winners and de-hoisted the tournament flag. Earlier, the closing ceremony programme was chaired by PDVA treasurer, Haireugwang Teilia, special number was presented by Nangkamlak, vote of thanks was delivered by PDVA vice president, Kechidi and benediction was said by Intobe.
