KOHIMA, JUNE 23 (MExN): A two-week Badminton Coaching Camp for girls under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative began on Monday at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Thegabakha, Kohima. Organised by the District Administration and the Department of Social Welfare, the camp is being held in collaboration with the Kohima District Badminton Association (KDBA).
The coaching camp, which will run until July 6, aims to empower young girls through sports and provide them with a platform to build skills and confidence. A total of 30 girls from both government and private schools across Kohima are participating.
Speaking at the inaugural event, EAC Kohima Ane Khieya, NCS, who graced the occasion as the special guest, declared the camp open and lauded the initiative as a step forward in the education and empowerment of the girl child. She encouraged the participants to fully engage in the programme and become role models for others in their communities.
“This initiative under BBBP is not just about sports; it is about empowering young girls to realise their potential and lead with confidence,” Khieya said.
The programme was chaired by Seto Khate, Honorary Secretary of KDBA, while Anyile Khamo, District Programme Officer, Mission Shakti, delivered the welcome address. A special musical performance was presented by Leiving and Sagar, and the prayer of invocation was led by Rev. Azhato Kiba of New Life Church, Kohima.
The coaching is fully sponsored under the BBBP scheme.
