A motorcycle that is dubbed as bearing a piece of Indian military history – the Bajaj V15 was launched in Nagaland today. Bajaj’s latest offering in the 150cc segment was introduced to customers today at the Indian two-wheeler giant’s dealership, SK Motors located at Clock Tower junction, Dimapur. The company had formally launched the V15 nationwide on March 23.
“It’s not just a bike. It’s an invincible symbol of strength and solidity. Containing the metal of INS Vikrant, India’s first aircraft carrier, V is a bike that truly epitomises its proud heritage…” proudly proclaims marketing pamphlets handed out by the company. How much of the V15 bears the INS Vikrant is however left to imagination with reviewers hinting that part of the fuel tank bears a piece of the de-commissioned aircraft carrier.
The V15 has received much attention from bike enthusiasts since a teaser (video clip) of the V15 was released by the company in January 26. The unique look of the bike unlike any that has been produced in India has had reviewers almost lost for words to give it a place in the motor-cycle family. While it bears resemblance to café racers with a removable cowl attached at the pillion seat, it gets the look of a muscular commuter and the feel of a cruiser with the cowl removed. From the front, the headlamp gets a robotic look.
Some reviewers have described it as a cross between a standard commuter and a café racer with a retro touch yet a Bajaj technician during the launch today chose to differ describing it as a solid combination of the sporty, classic and premium segments.
Another unique feature of the bike is that the Bajaj insignia found normally on the sides of the fuel tank is missing replaced by a chrome-finish ‘V’ and the company relegated to the side of the clutch box.
For the average commuter though, the V15 is priced at around the same price as the Pulsar 150 at Rs. 70,493 in Dimapur. According to Bajaj, it will return a mileage of 55 kmpl on city roads. Not built for speed, according to reviews, the bike with wide wheel base handles well city roads and sharp turns and gives relatively good torque meaning it can negotiate hilly terrain strongly.
