BAN condemns extortion demand

Dimapur, May 20 (MExN): The Business Association of Nagas (BAN) on Wednesday condemned the alleged demand of ‘tax’ made by cadres of a Naga Political Group to the proprietor of TK service / Progressive Motors Dimapur.
A press release from the BAN stated that “the group has threatened to down the shutters if their demands were not met.”
Condemning the “inhumanly act” especially at a time when the entire country is under lockdown, the association stated that “Businesses have been affected very badly in the last few months, especially the automobile sector.” Instead of giving some words of brotherly encouragement in such a difficult situation, threatening a fellow Naga is uncalled for, the release stated.
BAN said that the group which made the demand for ‘tax’ was part of the Naga National Political Group (NNPGs) and as such appealed the NNPGs “to spare the business community in such difficult times as Naga businesses are yet to recover from the impact of COVID-19.”
