Mokokchung, July 17 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kobulong block, Mokokchung inaugurated a farm school on banana at Mangkolong, Mopungchuket village on July 17.
Mangkolong is well known for its ecotourism and agro farming potential within Kobulong block, informed a press release from ATMA Kobulong block.
Tsukjemzulu whose farm spreads over 2 ha was appointed as the farm school teacher. Meanwhile, Nuksunginla Jamir, Assistant Technology Manager (ATM) delivered the concept and operationalization of farm school.
In line with the farm school, training on improved agronomic practices on banana production was conducted, the release said.
Resource person Mapusenla, Horticulture Extension Assistant (DHO) covered wide range of topics from selection of planting material to harvesting, pest and diseases of banana and its management. She encouraged the farmers to use tissue culture plants for planting because of its many advantages, some of which are pest and disease free seedlings, possibility of two successive ratoons in a short duration which minimizes cost of cultivation etc. The resource person also emphasized on biological control of pest and disease.
During interaction, the farmers highlighted they have incurred great losses due to high banana weevil infestation, according to the release.
Altogether, 20 farmers attended the programme.
