Newmai News Network Imphal | October 15   Normal life was adversely affected due to the 18-hour ‘Manipur bandh’ called by the CorCom (Co-Ordination Committee), the umbrella body of various Meitei underground outfits. The bandh, which began from midnight of October 14 ended at 6 pm of October 15. The bandh was called in protest against the Merger Agreement of 1949.   According to the CorCom, “it was on October 15, 1949 that India proclaimed the merger of Manipur into the Indian Union”. The CorCom alleged that King Budhachandra was forced to sign the Merger Agreement under duress by the Indian Union. The CorCom called this day as ‘National Black Day’.   There were no reports of untoward incident. Very few people ventured out in the streets and roads in the valley districts. Shops and other business establishment did not operate today. Educational institutions too did not function today. The bandh also severely affected the transport services.   It can be noted here that CorCom has been calling bandh on October 15 every year.
