Guwahati, May 25 (MExN): Bank of Baroda on May 25 inaugurated its new-age Phygital Branch in Shillong, Meghalaya, marking the launch of the bank’s first such branch in the Northeast Zone.
The branch was inaugurated by Lal Singh, Executive Director of Bank of Baroda, in the presence of Dr B D R Tiwari, Commissioner and Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, along with senior officials of the bank, customers and members of the local community.
Other officials present at the event included Shiba Pada Nayak, General Manager and Zonal Head – North Eastern States Zone; C M Tripathy, General Manager – HRM; R K Goel, General Manager – MSME Banking; Punit Mishra, AGM and In-charge – Rajbhasha and Parliamentary Committee; Diwakar Jha, Regional Head – Guwahati; and Lakyntiew Riti, Branch Head – Shillong.
According to the bank, the Shillong phygital branch combines advanced digital banking infrastructure with personalised customer service as part of its digital transformation strategy.
Speaking at the inauguration, Lal Singh said the bank remained committed to driving digital transformation while maintaining strong personal relationships with customers.
“We are pleased to launch our first phygital branch in Northeast Zone in Shillong. This innovative branch model represents a significant step forward in redefining customer experience by combining digital enablement with personalised assistance tailored to individual customer preferences,” he said.
He added that the phygital branch model aimed to enhance customer service, convenience and engagement by blending technology with human interaction.
Dr B D R Tiwari appreciated the bank’s long-standing customer service and assured support towards strengthening banking services in the region.
The phygital banking model combines physical and digital banking experiences, enabling quicker and paperless transactions while retaining in-person assistance through branch staff.
Key features of the branch include self-service kiosks with interactive touchscreens for services such as PAN updation, account statements through email, TDS certificates and nominee updation.
The branch also offers a video contact centre facility through which customers can connect with the bank’s support centre for assistance relating to services such as home loans, savings accounts, term deposits and car loans.
In addition, universal service desks have been set up to provide one-stop solutions for customers requiring in-person banking services.
Bank officials said the Shillong branch would help strengthen financial inclusion and expand access to modern banking services across Meghalaya and the Northeast region.
