'Banks have equal responsibility in developing society'

Kohima, February 9 (MExN): Banks have a positive role to play in developing the society stated the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya while interacting with Bank officials from Kohima and Dimapur at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on February 9.

The Governor was of the view that development of the society was not brought by the Government alone and Banks plays an equal responsibility in developing the society. He called on the various Banks in the State to help and motivate young entrepreneurs in establishing themselves by extending all help possible. He directed the Banks to tie up with universities and colleges to interact with students and enlighten them of how banks can be of help once they pass out from the institutions.

“There should be dialogue between universities, industries and Banks for the development of the State” he stated. Acknowledging that it was not the duty of Banks to hold camps and interactive sessions for students, the Governor however felt it was time for banks to reach out.

Governor Acharya also expressed his concern regarding the absence of banks in most parts of Nagaland. The Governor felt that the districts of the State should be connected with all major banks and the banking facilities should be made available to all. He requested the various Bank branch managers to write to their head offices regarding opening branches in all districts of Nagaland.

Bank officials also highlighted the Governor on the various schemes and welfare programme launched by the Central Government and how they are being implemented in Nagaland. The Governor encouraged the Banks to continue implementing the schemes and to help the targeted group.
