‘Barkweaver Days’ from June 30-July 3

KOHIMA, June 28 (MExN): With the view to promote and further strengthen the reading culture amongst the young generation, a 3-day event- ‘Barkweaver Days’ will be held from June 30 to July 3 at Ozone Café, Kohima.

The Barkweaver Days will witness several literary events and will also launch a 9-year old child author- Suiyikai Ndang on June 30. It will also feature author, Jasmine Patton and Kanzangding Thou. Further, there will be a poetry evening with Avinuo Kire on July 3.

On the upcoming Barkweaver Days, noted poet and writer, Easterine Kire said, the reading culture in Nagaland is slowly picking up but added that it is still very slow and stressed on the importance of creating events like these.

She also informed that, “We are offering discounts to students if they can bring their student ID. Because we want them to learn that their student status is a valuable thing and student days are very precious and to be lived to the full in ways like this. Also we are irrevocably moving from an oral culture to a written culture so events like this are trying to help the written culture forward. At the same time, having been to the Story Night by Global Shapers, I see that it’s possible to have the two traditions exist in a healthy manner simultaneously and we should all work towards that.”
