
Our Correspondent Kohima | March 22 Lower Bayavu Giants and Diphu XI today confirmed their semi-final berths in the 8th Silver Cup T20 Cricket Tournament being organised by Nepali Baptist Church Youth Department at Jakhama Local Ground, Kohima. Playing the first quarterfinal, which was reduced to 18 overs, Bayavu Giants defeated Peraciezie Royals by 14 runs. Put to bat first, Lower Bayavu Giants set a target of 125 being bundled out in 17.2 overs. Skipper Tapitu contributed highest with 28 runs and followed by Bipenkar with 23. Peraciezie Royals bowler Renchamo and Saroj took 3 and 2 wickets each respectively. However, chasing the target of 125 runs, Peraciezie batsman managed 111 runs losing 8 wickets in 18 overs. Amhalie scored highest 34 runs while Nzanthung added 23. Lower Bayavu Giants’ Vikato who took 4 wickets and chipped in with 15 runs with the bat was adjudged man of the match. In a closely contested second quarterfinal, Diphu XI beat Royal Tourniquets by 7 runs. Diphu XI after being put into bat posted 146/7 in 20 overs with Sardali contributing 37 runs. Tourniquets’ bowler SS Alam claimed four wickets. Chasing the target, Royal Tourniquets fell short of balls as they managed to score 139 runs losing 6 wickets – short by just 6 runs. Diphu XI bowler Mridul took 2 wickets. Akumdong struck 26 runs. SS Alam, who had earlier picked 4 wickets, was also the highest run-scorer of the match with a fine inning of 65 runs. He was later adjudged man of the match. Alam is also the holder of Red Cap (Highest Run-scorer) of the tournament with 132 runs.
