BDDC renews demand for Bhandari district creation

DIMAPUR, JUNE 12 (MExN): The Bhandhari District Demand Committee (BDDC) has renewed its demand for creation of Bhandari district.

A press release issued by the BDDC said an emergency meeting held on June 10, 2018 deliberated on the issue and after a “threadbare discussion reaffirmed its commitment to go ahead on the aspiration of the people’s vision of having a district for inclusive development and for greater welfare of the region.”

Giving a brief profile of the sub-division, the Committee recalled that Bhandari, formerly an Inspection Bungalow (IB) post during British India, was subsequently recognized as an Administrative centre and named as Bhandari sub-division in 1957 which remains till date.

Situated 70 kilometer away from Wokha Headquarter, the Committee stated that Bhandari sub-division has the distinction of being the oldest among the existing sub-divisions in Nagaland and consist of more than 80 recognized and unrecognized villages.

The Government of Nagaland had also declared Bhandari sub-division as an “economically and developmentally backward areas” in 1983 which holds till today, the Committee claimed.
