Zunheboto, June 18 (MExN): An awareness programme for conservation and protection of forest and wildlife was organised by Wildlife Division, Dimapur at Aizuto Mission Compound on June 16.
The chairperson of the programme, Caroline K. Angami, IFS, Wildlife Warden, Dimapur exhorted the participants to be the champion and ambassador for wildlife and nature.
YM Jami, IFS, Conservator of Forests, Northern Territorial Circle, Mokokchung and special invitee of the programme lauded the efforts of seven villages of Aotsakili, Lokobo, Naghuto (old & new), Vekuho (old & new), Askhuto in coming together to protect and preserve the forests and wildlife by contributing their land for a common Community Reserved Forests.
Meanwhile, PCCF (Wildlife) & CWLW, Nagaland, Satya Prakash Tripathi appealed to the participants for cooperation and coordination with the department for protection, preservation and management of forests and wildlife, informed a press release from Caroline K Angami, Wildlife Warden, Dimapur.
Short speech was also delivered by Tokaho, DFO, Zunheboto, who shared the success story of Sukhai CCA and how the people are going to reap economic, social and environmental benefits under CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives. Atoizu area, he said, has been selected under JICA project and asked the people to document various species of flora and fauna found in their forests and to contact his office for any issues, problems or assistances.
Short speeches were also delivered by Khehoto, Head GB, Lokobo village and Inashe, GB, Aotsakili village. They thanked the department and the government for recognition of the Community Reserved Forests and assured of fullest support, cooperation and coordination with the department towards protection, preservation and conservation of forests and wildlife within their jurisdiction.
A short movie on wildlife conservation, “Nagaland is changing but….” was also shown to the participants.
