DIMAPUR NOV 25 (MExN): Home Minister Thenucho has asked the State’s police personnel to act in a just and fair manner according to the provisions of law keeping in mind the attitude of the public and the common people.
Speaking at the Combined Attestation and Passing out Parade of the 11th, 10th and 9th NAP (IR) Battalion Recruits at NAPTC Chumukedima today, Thenucho took serious cognizance of growing public criticism against Police establishments saying that it was a barometer of public attitude towards the police. “There is hardly a day when we do not read about the criticisms of the police in the press.
To reduce the degree of negative criticism, what you can do is have an open and positive mind and act in just and fair manner according to the provisions of law” Minister Thenucho said while conceding that it was difficult for the police personnel to function effectively in the present day complex society.
He said that the intricate society characterized by diverse races, cultures, languages, religions, political ideologies and alignments was proving taxing in their duties.
“However being citizens of the same country where the same law applies to one and all, an upright, just and fair handling of any issue by the police personnel whether individually or collectively will go a long way in achieving your task” he said.
The Home Mister further exhorted the newly trained IRB personnel to keep in mind that the learning process was not over with the completion of the training but only the beginning. He reminded that the knowledge and experiences they have acquired and undergone would be tested in real life field duties and performances.
“Police service demands continuous learning and maintaining high standards of service in ,conformity with the law and legal procedures as well as to fulfill the expectations of the society” Thenucho said. He cautioned that the citizens of today were more aware and conscious of their rights and privileges as well as the nature of duties and responsibilities of the Police.
