Kohima, March 7 (MExN): Chief Minister of Nagaland TR Zeliang today asked Government officials posted in various places to reside in their respective posting places instead of being mere “visitors.”
Stressing on the need for providing quality and meaningful governance to the people of the State, Zeliang said this while addressing the monthly Peren District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting at New Peren District Headquarters, informed a press note from Chief Minister’s Office.
“Do not make a habit of compelling people to visit you in Kohima or Dimapur to get their works done,” the Chief Minister said exhorting the Government officials to reside in their places of posting rather than paying flying visits once “in a blue moon.”
The CM further expressed concern that numerous complaints have been received all over the State that officials attend only the DPDB meetings and are never found in their offices thereafter.
Maintaining that good governance to the people cannot be delivered if Government officials and employees do not attend offices, Zeliang asked whether their conscience justify the drawing of salaries without performing their duties.
“Why should the common man suffer because of negligence on the part of Government official and how can we administer the people when administrators do not attend to their offices or duties,” he further chided.
The CM said Government officials posted in various places should leave behind a legacy of dedicated effort to perform their duties so that fond memories are left behind for future generations to remember them.
Zeliang also appealed to all the Government officers in Peren to come and settle down in available quarters at the new District Headquarters before plots are allotted to individuals and people start constructing their houses.
“And those of you who do not have quarters may consult with the Deputy Commissioner and work out alternative arrangements,” he added.
According to the CMO release, during the meeting, several departmental heads of the district complained of not having Office buildings and quarters for the staff. The CM, assuring all help and assistance from his side, asked them to work out DPRs to be included in the works programme in the current financial year if possible.
The Chief Minister further asked the departments of PHE and Power to hasten provision of adequate water and power to the district Headquarters saying that without power and water, no habitation can flourish.
Reminding the BSNL officials about Government of India’s programme to make India into Digital India, the CM said the Public Sector Undertaking should provide OFC connection to the District HQ as early as possible He said he will personally take up the matter with the BSNL Chief General Manager’s Office, Dimapur when the officials pointed out that this would require additional sanction from the CGM.
The Board meeting today also approved up-gradation of Government Middle School at DC Colony, which has a total number of 397 students and caters to several other feeder schools in Peren Town, to Government High school.
He further expressed his appreciation to Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Peter Lichamo who shifted the District Headquarters to the new site despite stiff opposition from a section of the public.

The Chief Minister of Nagaland TR Zeliang today said that unlike other years when actual Budgets were delayed and only Votes on Account were taken up during Budget Sessions, there will be a full budget session this year, a press note from Chief Minister’s Office informed.
