Zunheboto, December 5 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaland University, celebrated World Soil Health day on December 5 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Zunheboto, Nagaland University.
The theme of the day was ‘Be the solution to soil pollution.’ Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Sr. Scientist & Head welcomed all the participants. Participants were imparted training on Soil Health Management by Naropongla (Farm Manager) of KVK. Branch Manager, SBI Lumami spoke on the various facilities which are available with SBI to empower the famers. Ghukhevi a progressive farmer of Aotsakilimi village spoke on behalf of the farming community.
Chief Guest of the programme, Prof. NS Jamir, Vice Chancellor Incharge, Nagaland University in his speech addressed several issues faced by the farming community. He cited examples of Molvom village which is pineapple village and asked the farmers that whether the same can be replicated or not. He advised the farmers to maintain soil fertility to improve productivity of soil. He also stressed on the preservation of forest from further degradation and loss of flora and fauna so that the future generation can get their share.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Edenly Chishi (SMS, Horticulture). The programme ended with distribution of 184 Soil Health Card.
