LONGLENG, July 31 (MExN): World Day Against Trafficking in Persons was observed at Indoor Stadium Longleng on July 30.
The programme was organized by the District Administration, Mahila Shakti Kendra and Sakhi-One Stop Centre Longleng.
A DIPR report stated that Rohbi Sangtam, EAC Hq Longleng in the introductory speech said that trafficking in person usually take place due to ignorance. He encouraged the gathering to be responsible to educate and aware the youngster on child trafficking.
Addressing as the special guest, the Deputy Commissioner Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam highlighted the importance of observation of the day. He stated that women are trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation while men are trafficked for working in illegal activities, factories and mines. He therefore challenged the gathering to be vigilant to stop this menace while also seeking the cooperation of all the stalk holders.
Resource person, Chingong Phom, Literature Secretary, PBCA Longleng defined trafficking as putting someone in an uncomfortable situation where one earn out of another’s life. She also stated that trafficking denotes transferring of human by someone either by force or agreement and that the victims are mostly from economically unstable community and villages. She noted that in today’s society, Nagas are attracted to modern culture and as a result becomes a victim of human trafficking.
P Monyei Phom, Penal Lawyer DLSA Longleng presented the report on human trafficking from the legal perspective. She also emphasized on various laws and regulations related to human trafficking such as Prevention of Human Trafficking & Immoral Act, Prohibition of Child Labour Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act.
The occasion was marked by the presentation from Phom Lempong School, singing and choreography from St. Joseph’s Choir and Christian School Respectively.
