Basic Ecclesial Communities Zonal Convention was held in St John the Evangelist Parish, Khonoma.
Khonoma, October 20 (MExN): Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) Zonal Convention was held in St John the Evangelist Parish, Khonoma from October 17 to 19. The participants from Kohima, Diphu and Imphal gathered several hundred in number to share the word of God and the Eucharist, and to plan ways to involve everyone in witnessing the love of Jesus, stated a press release received here.
BECs are an attempt to make the Church more relevant in today’s context. Pope St John Paul II called BECs a concrete expression of the Church, and a home and family for everyone.
The special invitees for the Convention were Most Rev Dr James Thoppil Bishop of Kohima, Most Rev Paul Mattekatt Bishop of Diphu and Most Rev Dominic Lumon Arch Bishop Emeritus of Imphal. The Eucharistic Procession one of the popular Devotions took place on Friday with the large number of people. The Resource Persons were Most Rev Benny Varghese Bishop of Itanagar, Most Rev Jose Mukala Bishop Emeritus of Kohima, Rev Fr Dr Hippolytus Reginal Co-ordinator, John Gurung BEC, DRT Sikkim.
The convention with the theme “BEC is the Heartbeat of the Church and the Family” came to an end with a closing ceremony on October 19 with vote of thanks by Rev Fr Solomon Vizo.
