Dimapur, January 31 (MExN): The 34th NSCN Day was celebrated at the NSCN (IM)’s Council Headquarters in Hebron today, which saw a speech from its Chairman Isak Chishi Swu followed by an exhortation speech by General Secretary Th. Muivah.
Swu’s speech, which started with thanking the Lord, went on to explain how the National Socialist Council of Nagalim was created on January 31, 1980. Further, he said, “The National Socialist Council of Nagalim put up an undaunted resistance against the aggression of the colossal forces of the enemies who adopted ruthless means to crush the Nagas. Guided by their avowed neo-colonial policy, they used one Naga to fight another Naga, instigated one group to fight another group and incited communalism between the Nagas and others with a view to keeping the Nagas divided and suppressed perpetually. But that could not dampen the spirit of the Nagas. In fact, the Naga people under the banner of NSCN stood the ground in the face of those horrible situations.”
He then said that some from within have joined forces with the enemies, and while naming them “traitors”, highlighted that “they are still working unceasingly to abort negotiations in the sweet name of unity”.
Isak Swu acknowledged, in his speech, the official recognition by the Government of India of the “unique history of the Nagas”, which he termed a “bold step” towards solution. He hoped that the GoI would also appreciate “the steps taken by the Nagas” to being genuine peace between people.
Describing this as the “Era of the NSCN” that “sells both at home and abroad”, Swu also reminded its “comrades-in-common-cause” that “We cannot afford to fall this time… NSCN will fall when the spirit of NSCNism runs out in its members, it will fall when it is not political, it will fall when the policy of its leadership is not people-based; it will fall when its approach to the world is not objective, it will fall when its members are rebellious, it will fall when there is moral degeneration in the set-ups. Above all, it will fall when its members flee from the Lord.”
Making clear that Nagas are strong in political, military and religious fields but weak in economy, science and technology, Swu expounded that “When other people look for market for selling their products, the Nagas hunger for our purchase of foreign good. Others build our house; others stitch our clothes and most of our goods are imports. We are too dependent on others… Our fathers lived by the bread and honey of their own make. Let us re-inculcate the spirit of self-reliance and move forward to overtake others who are far ahead of us in many fields.”
Expressing belief that “God will renew our strength to continue our journey”, the NSCN Chairman reiterated “We need a secure home of our own where we decide our future by ourselves. We cannot build our villages or cities without home. We cannot leave our fate in the hand of others. Our revolution is about change of fate, not change of life. This revolution will certainly decide our future.”
Meanwhile, NSCN General Secretary Th. Muivah in his exhortation speech remained emotional as he reminded members that God will never be happy with NSCN if its members do not take the right decision in order to save the Naga nation. He said, “The world has not stopped, it keeps changing. But when the people fail to understand the process of change they will be lost because they fail to take the right decision”. Reflecting the Chairman’s sentiments, he appealed to all the members to change by taking the right decision to ask God for forgiveness, as there is no other way to save the nation, he said.
