‘Become self-reliant and develop skills’

Kohima: “Apart from mere acquisition of knowledge and academic excellence, devout much time in extra-curricular activities to become self-reliant and develop skills,” F.P. Solo, Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Higher and Technical Education said during the inaugural function of the cultural cum literary competitions on March 27 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Hr. Sec. School, Lerie-Kohima.

Recalling his younger days, the Solo encouraged the students to give importance to develop the various fields such as dancing, singing, gardening, rearing animals, mountaineering, cooking, washing, electrical and mechanical works, carpentry which would come in handy to face the future. Even as everyone aspires to acquire Government jobs, the Commissioner and Secretary gave the awareness to the students to respect and love all sorts of work and to devout their entire time to develop practical and physical ability.

Earlier Rev. Fr. Carolus Neisalhou, the Chairman of the school gave a fitting welcome to everyone while the invocation was pronounced by Sr. Ancy Maria, the Vice Principal. Other items of the inaugural program include; special number from Angami troupe, dance from the Sema cultural troupe and cultural attire from the Tiny tots. Seyiekuolie conducted the program while Noeline delivered the vote of thanks.

Fr. Johny, Principal in a press release mentioned that the school is organizing this competition for the consecutive two days. The various items of the competitions include, fire making, folk song, folk dance, traditional attire, skit from folk tales, solo, duet, group song, poem recitation, extempore speech, debate, memory test, tableau, and fancy show.
