The National Health Insurance Scheme “Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana” (RSBY) which was introduced in Nagaland last year under the initiative of Directorate of Labour, Nagaland was reported to have benefited the rural people on large scale.

The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) acted as a scheme facilitator team covered up the entire Chakhesang area last year, spending 40 days by briefing the common people the benefits of the scheme and registering the names of the required beneficiaries under provided norms and criteria. As per the CSU available report, approximately 20,000 families with more than 60,000 beneficiaries were registered under beneficiaries availing a biometric card containing a cashless credit card of `30,000/- per family for a year.

Meanwhile, the card holders under Chakhesang area had their card expired in the month of September this year as it is valid only  for 365 days. To enable the card holder to get their card renewed with the same provision, the department of Labour Commission is undertaking a ‘Renewal Card Drive’ under Phek District from October 20 to 31.

Talking to the Morung Express, Ekhahu Rose, assistant labour commissioner, Phek said the renewal drive would cover up four phases as stated against: Phek Division-20 to 22, Meluri Division-23 to 25, Pfutsero Division-26 to 28 and Chozuba Division 29 to 31. Rose has appealed the entire village councils and town ward representatives to cooperate with the commission during the renewal drive at their own jurisdiction giving a wide publicity to the card holders in their ward.

Reiterated with the same provision with that of last year, a sum of ` 30/- per card shall be charged for renewal - to be re-credited with ` 30,000/- per card. He further revealed that addition and deletion on beneficiaries will be entertained by the commission during the drive with a maximum of five beneficiaries for a card subject to the registering of names during the first registration phase.

As per the guidelines of the scheme, it shall provide coverage for meeting of expenses of hospitalization and surgical procedures of beneficiary members up to `30, 000 per family per year in any registered hospitals all over India. According to reliable sources, there are only six existing registered hospitals in Nagaland with three in Dimapur, two in Kohima and one in Mokokchung, however the commission with an intention of creating more opportunities to the rural people, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the government of Nagaland and the commission recently thereby the possible provision in this regard would be implemented in all the district hospitals in Nagaland shortly.

Rose while terming the very scheme meant solely for the un-reached sections of people, he verdantly appealed to all the right thinking citizens of the district to give unflinching cooperation in drive and enable people to renew their cards. He further warned that the government employees who intend to avail this facility would definitely faces bitter consequences making their service at stake.

Meanwhile, Rose through this publication has urged the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Phek to give a wide publicity in this regard so as to let the people avail the scheme. He further directed the Village Council Chairmen (VCCc), Village Development Board Secretaries (VDB Secretaries), other NGOs in the village to collect the card under careful strategy in order to get the cards renewed at the right time. In case of addition and deletion, concerned person must be present on the day of renewal, for any queries one may contact 9436435309.
