Sumi daily launched in Dimapur

Printed and published by a group of likeminded Sumi citizens and leaders in various fields, a Sumi vernacular daily named ‘Sumi Kukuputsa’ with its motto, ‘For a Better Tomorrow’ was launched at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur on Tuesday.   Office of the tabloid sized daily is located at Marcofed building, Lhomithi Colony, Dimapur.  

Speaking after launching the daily, former Sumi Hoho President and Advisor, Toniho Yeptho lauded those persons who initiated publication of the newspaper which would serve as a platform in shaping the views and opinions of the people in a positive manner.  

He pointed out that the publishers and staff would initially face a lot of hiccups in management, printing, finances and many other unforeseen situations but encouraged them not to give up but keep their determination strong for the betterment of Sumi community.  

Chairman, Board of Directors, Sumi Kukuputsa, Dr. Khekugha Murru highlighted how the newspaper came into being and thanked all those who encouraged towards making the daily see the light of the day.  

He said the daily was being published with three main objectives – to provide a platform for the Sumi community to discuss issues relating to the welfare of the citizens, to preserve and promote Sumi language, and to make people aware of the current happenings and sensitize them on pertinent issues.  

Appealing for support and cooperation from the readers, Dr. Khekugha welcomed any positive criticisms and advice towards making the daily a success.  

Western Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu Executive Secretary, Rev. Dr. Hevukhu Achumi pronounced dedicatory prayer for the launching of the newspaper.  

Message of Sumi Hoho President, Hekhushe Shikhu, who was supposed to launch the daily but could not attend owing to unavoidable circumstances, was read out during the programme.  

The launching programme was attended by a host of Sumi frontal organization leaders and well wishers.
