Dimapur, November 9 (MExN): The Tokhvü Emong festivities at Bhandari under Wokha district was celebrated under the theme ‘Introspect, Revive and Co-operate,’ on November 7.

Secretary to the Government of Nagaland K Libanthung Lotha was the special guest at event which was held at Public Sports Ground, Bhandari, according to a DIPR report received here on Wednesday.

Bringing festival greetings to the gathering, the special guest reflected on the theme and called for unity and cooperation to achieve progress in the present society. He noted that ‘detachment of the younger generation from the imitable and rich legacy of our forefathers and losing touch with our roots is as dangerous as neglecting our valuable customs, traditions, and folklore because it may lead us to gradually lose our identity as a people.’ He emphasized that everyone should do their bit in the effort to revive and preserve ‘our ageless culture and traditions.’ Eramo Rhanlamo Kikon, who narrated how Tokhvü Emong in the olden days was celebrated, observed that with time many traditional practices and characteristics of the most revered festival have lost their ritualistic practices.

Commandant 7th NAP Bhandari, Yanithung Ezung, in his exhortation also said that the celebration of Tokhvü Emong used to be a gateway to new beginning in many aspects for individual and social relations and growth in the past and it still fosters goodwill between people in the present times, the DIPR report stated. The celebration programme was led by senior GB P Longshithung Odyuo.
