Bhandari-Merapani road repairs to start on ‘Assurance of future payment

Dimapur, March 21 (MExN): Parliamentary secretary for Geology & Mining, Y Patton has given commitment to the Merapani villagers that repairing of the dusty and unattended 1.08km road stretch between Bhandari and Merapani would commence next week.
Addressing the villagers of the border village Sunday afternoon at the village court, the parliamentary secretary said that the road needed to be repaired on immediate basis since it was the life-line of Wokha district. Patton said that he, along with Minister for Agriculture Dr. Chumben Murry had approached the Roads & Bridges minister and also apprised the chief minister on the urgency to repair the stretch.
He said that though there was no sanction for the stretch, the Roads & Bridges department had consented to the repairing works and the contractor also agreed to commence work based on “assurance” of future payment. Appealing to the villagers not to disturb the repairing works, Patton specially requested the villagers not to demand any “commission” since the contractor was working solely on assurance of future payment.
The parliamentary secretary also thanked the district administration, Kyong Hoho and public for their concern to repair the road. DC Wokha, Rovilatuo Mor, also appealed the villagers for smooth progress of the repairing works. On behalf of the villagers, chairman of Merapani village Council assured that the repairing works would go unhindered. Kyong Hoho president in his address said that once the road was repaired, it would benefit the whole district and thanked the two legislators and district administration.
