BHANDARI, JUNE 17 (MExN): The monthly meeting of the Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) of Bhandari sub-division was held on Tuesday at the conference hall of the Summer House-cum-Guest House in Bhandari, Wokha district. The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman of SDPDB, Longasen Lotha, NCS, who welcomed newly inducted members and reviewed the minutes of the previous sitting.
During deliberations, Deputy Director of the Nagaland State Seed Farm, Merapani, H. Lawrence informed the house that the department had recently conducted widespread sensitisation and awareness campaigns targeting farm tenants, community leaders, and local groups. The effort was aimed at maintaining the status quo in the State Seed Farm area and encouraging residents to approach competent authorities with grievances rather than taking the law into their own hands.
Despite several operational challenges, the department remains committed to producing high-yielding, quality seeds and planting materials for farmers across the state, he said, and appealed for peace and cooperation from all stakeholders in the area.
Lawrence also highlighted that the State Seed Farm, established in 1969, has been operating without electricity since inception, severely affecting the farm's efficiency. He urged the concerned authorities to provide regular and reliable electricity supply to address various logistical and production challenges.
In response to law and order concerns, the house stressed the need to identify miscreants and report them to the nearest police stations in Bhandari and Merapani to safeguard the farm's operations.
The house, led by the ADC and Vice Chairman, also lauded the electrical department for its commendable services in the subdivision despite resource constraints. It urged the higher authorities to provide a dedicated vehicle to support the department in overcoming geographical challenges and improving mobility.
SDO (Civil) Ralan, Tsenthungo E. Ngullie, updated the house on the construction of the SDO (Civil) office at Ralan. The Veterinary Department, Merapani, has been directed to present its departmental profile in the next SDPDB meeting.
