Bhandari, September 12 (MExN): MLA and Chairman of SDPDB Bhandari, Achumbemo Kikon, has directed that the ongoing Foothill Road construction within Bhandari Subdivision be completed by December 2025.
Chairing the monthly SDPDB meeting at the Summer House-cum-Guest House, Bhandari, on September 11, Kikon said the road, once completed, would provide a hassle-free “home road” for travellers.
SDO (R&B), PWD Bhandari, Er. Elithung Ovung, informed that construction is progressing along a 39-kilometre stretch, including bridges, though monsoon rains have slowed work at certain points.
The meeting also deliberated on border security, resolving to apprise the government to reactivate or establish Nagaland Police or Nagaland Armed Police outposts in strategic areas, while also improving facilities for IRB personnel stationed at Liphayan and Tchujanphen villages. A proposal to shift the present police check post from Bhandari town to Merapani village (Marachu Yan) was also discussed.
Chairman of Ralan Area Lotha Hoho, C.S. Ovung, noted that local communities have been extending logistical support whenever required.
Education concerns were raised with the Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Bhandari, L. Tiameren Longkumer, highlighting the shortage of a language teacher and an Informatics Practices teacher for the past two years. The House resolved to urge the concerned departments to address the matter without delay.
Other issues discussed included upscaling the Baghty sub-treasury to serve as the financial centre of the subdivision, empowering offices with Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs), upgrading power supply facilities at CHC Bhandari, and renovating the Northern Sumi Guest House.
