Christians are becoming more secular and materialistic attitude in Christian religion. In recent news article Secularism: The religious Touchstone in Vogue, the writer gave a clear distinction between Secularism and Christian religion (especially materialistic attitude in Christian religion). I am very much impressed by this article because I thought this is one of the most burning topics for Christian today where Christian are diminishing. One of the impacts of materialistic attitude in Christian religion is, Christianity is no longer the religion of Europe and North America. In this fast changing world, Nagaland is not too far from Europe and America. What social environment influence in those Nations will shortly come to Nagaland.
I hope there are many theologians in Nagaland are thinking whether the cause of diminishing Christianity in present day’s world. Here now, I am giving some comments according to my Bible understanding. Not only in Nagaland but by every nation of the world believes and accept that every religion has its own salvation. I also respect and honour every religion as this is the way human bring into moral and ethical values among mankind. However, when go further to the Bible, we discover something different from that of worldly intellect and understanding. We the Christian must go into it according to what God’s plan for the world, His purpose of salvation. Jesus said: I am the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6), Justified by the blood of Christ (Roman 5:9), whoever believes in Him (Jesus) shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). Christians today believes going to church, doing good to others is enough. But I believe, we must add something into our thoughts and ethical value that what God’s plan for his people according to what his words tell us that He is the only way the truth and the life, He is the only God that resurrected from died to save us and believing in Him will have eternal life. As the world of society moving fast changing, science and technologies grow fast, we must go further into Bible study and understand it pray fully.
Again accepting gospel and believe is not enough but according to Bible, every Christian is a missionary. Mission is the first task of every Christian. If a Christian do not grow and work then it will become thwart. Mission is not only for unbelievers as we sometimes misunderstood but it is in two forms. Firstly, Encouraging and helping each other etc. in our own community (i.e. including both believer and un-believer in our community). Secondly, we also make disciple of nations as Jesus commanded (especially this is for un-believing world). So if we study deeper into mission, the fields are plentiful both at home and outside Nagaland and for this purpose, I hope we need to upgrade our mission strategy. We need to unify our churches and go hand in hand in order to carry better result for His purpose towards mission instead of misunderstanding among us. Of course in one side if we think according to human intellect it is found hard and difficult but God promise us He will never leave us and day by day we can understand Him more and his purpose into our life and for his church.
