Big Bazaar set to launch in Nagaland with ‘grand opening’ on June 30

The commercial capital of Nagaland, Dimapur will become the 5th destination of Future Group’s leading hypermarket chain, Big Bazaar in the Northeast with its ‘grand opening’ on June 30.  

The outlet located at Nagi House, Circular Road, Dimapur will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. In an event created by Big Bazaar on Facebook read, “#HelloNagaland you are cordially invited to the grand opening of Dimapur Big Bazaar being inaugurated…” by CM Rio on Saturday.  

Currently, there are four Big Bazaar outlets in the Northeast, one each in Guwahati, Jorhat, Agartala and Silchar as per information on its website.  

In April 2018, Kishore Biyani, the founder and chief executive officer of Future Group, had told media in Guwahati that the group it will ramp up its retail presence across Northeast India and plans to roll out more hypermarket chain Big Bazaar in Assam as well as the other NE States.  

The group was also in talks for setting food park and flour mill in Assam, it said adding that apart from two more outlets in Guwahati, the group also plans to open outlets in Dibrugarh, Bongaigaon, Tezpur, and Tinsukia in Assam. An official also told the media in April that, “Our focus in very much on the Northeast with a number of outlets are lined up in the next 18 months starting from Dimapur and Dibrugarh within the next two months.”  

Shillong, Itanagar, Aizawl, and Kohima will have one each in the next 18 months.  

According to the Future Retail’s website, the flagship company of Future Group under which Big Bazaar operates, “India’s leading retailer…inspires trust through innovative offerings, quality products and affordable prices that help customers achieve a better quality of life every day.”  

“We serve customers in more than 250 cities across the country through over 12 million square feet of retail space,” it informed adding, they “operate multiple retail formats in the hypermarket, supermarket and home segments of the Indian consumer market.”  

According to BusinessDictionary.com, a hypermarket is a “vast self-service warehouse-cum-retail outlet that combines the features of a supermarket, department store, discount store, and specialty store in one location.”
